Many Independence Day celebrations take place outdoors, with lots of Americans having summer barbeques, heading to the beach and just generally celebrating with friends and family!

We’ve put together a list of some things you can do to when celebrating Independence Day while you’re in New York!

Visit a Park

There’s no better way to enjoy the great outdoors of New York than by visiting one of their iconic parks. Grab a picnic and head to the park to sit out and take in the summer atmosphere! With so many parks within walking distance or a short subway ride from our Grand Central and Manhattan Hotel, we’ve picked a few for you to visit!

Head to Coney Island

It’s sure to be busy but a trip to Coney Island is worth it! Located in South Brooklyn, Coney Island is one of New York’s most famous beachside communities and is accessible by numerous subway lines making it the perfect day trip for tourists and New Yorkers alike!
There’s always lots to see and do in Coney Island, with an Aquarium, Amusement Park and lots of Sideshows, you’re sure to be entertained for hours! If you prefer something a little more relaxed them why not relax on the beach or take a stroll along the boardwalk?
If you happen to visit on 4th July, you’ll notice a lot of people flocking to Nathan’s Famous – at 10:30 am, their annual hot dog eating contest takes place and is broadcast live on TV so probably best to wait until the afternoon if you fancy treating yourself to one of their famous hotdogs!
